Ramblings from a mentally ill 21 year old woman

  • For my 6th blog entry, I decided to write about Better Homes & Gardens for acts of service journalism. Better Homes & Gardens is a lifestyle magazine that began publication in 1922, primarily focusing on homes, cooking, gardening, crafts, healthy living, decorating, and entertaining. This article is titled “4 Leaf-Raking Mistakes Every Good Neighbor Should Avoid This Fall” and was published on November 4th, 2025, by Miranda Crowell. The article begins by reminding us to pick up our neighbor’s leaves. It then goes on to discuss different ways to do good this Fall. Examples include placing leaves in the streets, which can be very helpful to prevent clogged pipes. Letting leaves decompose in your lawn, which has been shown to benefit the soil and wildlife. Going to your neighbors to talk to them about their leaves, perhaps offering to rake their leaves for them? It is the neighborly thing to do in this time.

  • For this blog entry, I had to conduct an interview with someone about nursing. Originally, I was to write about Disney’s Discovery Island, which is now an abandoned and dilapidated animal theme park located in Bay Lake, Florida. It is situated on the property of Walt Disney World, located in the city of Bay Lake. I wasn’t in communication with anyone who had been/worked at the park prior to it being shut down in 1999, so I had to switch topics. I decided to go with nursing since my older sister is a nurse. The main challenge came with switching topics since finding a person to interview was easy. I was excited to write about Disney’s Discovery Island until I remembered I had to find someone to interview for it, it was somewhat last-minute minute and there was no way I could find someone in time for the interview. So, I had to switch gears.

  • For my second blog post, I was asked a question. Who would you like to interview? Why would you like to interview the person, and what are some specific questions you would ask?

This is a tough question, as there are a lot of people I would like to interview. From celebrities, royalty, politicians, musicians, authors, etc. But I’ll have to narrow it done to one person. Anne Stokes. Anne is a British visual artist who specializes in gothic and fantasy art; her work stretches beyond just illustration. She has stretched her work to include tarot cards, shirts, mugs, and figurines. I first discovered her works in middle school, becoming utterly entranced by them. The reason I want to interview is to ask her what inspired her to create her pieces, as well as to tell her that I admire her works.

I’d like to ask her what inspired her to pursue art and what she’d be doing if she weren’t an illustrator.

  • Hello, I’m Sophia, and this is the blog that I’ll be using for my mass communications class.

I already have a history of blogging, given that I’ve had a Tumblr blog for seven years now. I used it to reblog fandom posts, fanfictions, as well as pictures I like. Now I have a blog to use for school. Which is interesting to say the least.

I wasn’t born in Florida; I was actually born in Rhode Island and lived there for sixteen years. I moved down here in 2021. I had an alright childhood with nothing uneventful happening. I like to write, which began in middle school. I found writing to be a great form of escapism from my daily life, so I dedicated myself to writing every day, well, attempting to write every day.

I’m a nerd with very nerdy hobbies. I like anime, art, books, horror, gaming, and comic books. I can’t wait to post more on here to showcase my work for this class.
